Frequently Asked Questions
What is wind chill and how is it calculated?
Wind chill measures how fast human skin loses heat in cold windy conditions. The formula: WC = 13.12 + 0.6215T − 11.37V^0.16 + 0.3965T×V^0.16 where T is Celsius and V is wind speed in km/h. Developed by Environment Canada and the US National Weather Service.
When does frostbite become a risk?
Frostbite risk increases below −10°C wind chill. Below −25°C: frostbite in 30+ minutes. Below −35°C: frostbite in 10-30 minutes. Below −45°C: frostbite in under 10 minutes. Cover all exposed skin and limit time outdoors.
