Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to diet during pregnancy?
Calorie restriction dieting is not recommended during pregnancy. Focus on nutrient-dense foods rather than calorie reduction. Even in overweight or obese pregnancies, some weight gain is necessary and expected. Work with your OB or midwife to find the right targets for your specific situation.
When does pregnancy weight gain accelerate?
First trimester: minimal gain (0.5-2 kg total). Second trimester: approximately 0.5 kg/week. Third trimester: 0.5 kg/week. The baby accounts for only about 3-4 kg of total pregnancy weight gain — the rest is placenta, amniotic fluid, increased blood volume, breast tissue, and uterine growth.
