What is BMI Prime and how is it different from BMI?
BMI Prime = BMI ÷ 24.9. It normalizes BMI so that 1.0 always represents the upper boundary of normal weight. Under 1.0 is healthy, over 1.0 is above healthy. It’s more intuitive than the 18.5-24.9 scale.
What are the limitations of BMI and BMI Prime?
Both BMI and BMI Prime don’t distinguish between fat and muscle. Athletes often show high values. Body fat distribution (waist circumference) is a better predictor of cardiovascular risk than BMI alone.
